Three-phase public posts rated at 22 kW then charge the iX5 at full power, and BMW gives 7 hours 30 minutes from empty. British homes have a single phase, and BMW has not yet published a single-phase figure for the iX5. For the iX3, from the same generation, it lists 7.4 kW at 32 A, which on a 7 kW wall box would mean about 75 kWh in a 12-hour night, roughly half the iX5's battery. A cable rated for 16 A, as an 11 kW cable is, would hold that to 3.7 kW.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIf you reverse the iX5 onto the drive, its right rear flap stops close to the wall, so a six-metre cable will reach a wall box on that side of the garage. Drive in forwards and the flap sits at the far end of a car close to five metres long, which takes the cable down the whole right flank: an eight-metre cable is needed. When another car is parked between the iX5 and the wall, choose a ten-metre cable for reversing in or a 15-metre cable for going in nose first.
