Before plugging in, spend 60 seconds on a visual inspection. Look along the full length for cracks or splits in the outer sheath, check the connector for discolouration around the pins (a sign of heat damage), look inside the connector housing for moisture or condensation, and check the pins for pitting or green corrosion. Any single one of these is a reason to stop using the cable, regardless of the weather.
