Volvo EV Background

Most major car companies started developing EV models recently after the whole industry started moving in a zero-emission direction. However, Volvo has been thinking about battery-powered models since the mid-70s when the first oil crisis hit the car market, and Swedish engineers realized that oil dependency is not a sustainable model. However, it took several decades and notable concept cars for Volvo to enter the EV market. Although Volvo launched a spin-off brand, Polestar, to spearhead the EV efforts, the parent company produced its first electric vehicle in 2019 and soon announced plans to go fully electric by 2030. At Voldt, we are excited by Volvo's plans and their unique vision of what a passenger car should be. That is why we are developing charging cable solutions that match Volvo's advanced technology.

Volvo EV Models

Volvo smartly decided to present the electric versions of their most popular models, retaining the specific design and features but adding advanced EV technology. The first fully electric Volvo car is the XC40 Recharge, a compact SUV with decent range and power. The newly introduced EX40 is an even smaller SUV with modern tech and several available versions, and the CX40 is a crossover with sporty looks and similar technology. Interestingly, Volvo decided to present the EX90, a battery-powered version of their popular full-size SUV, the XC90. Volvo offered several PHEV versions of their sedans along with those EV-only models.

Volvo EV Technology

Developing much of its EV architecture with Polestar, Volvo's platforms and battery technology are amongst the most advanced in the industry. Currently, this company offers single and dual-motor drive trains with lithium-ion battery packs ranging from 49 kWh (EX30 Single Motor) to massive 111 kWh battery packs in EX90 Twin Motor Performance. All Volvo batteries have a 400 v architecture and support AC and DC charging. This means that smaller batteries can be charged at home chargers at a rate of up to 11 kW and on fast charging at a rate of up to 134 kW. However, the EX90, with its big battery pack, can be charged on DC chargers with a very fast 250 kW max. Even though Volvo's battery lineup is so diverse, we at Voldt readily have all the charging cable solutions you need to power those exciting machines safely and quickly.
