Checking the charge status directly on the vehicle is a good way to be sure of its actual charging status. From the in-car display, you can check the charging settings and directly view the charge percentage.
The charger screens also display the percentage: you can look there as well.
Don't forget that during the charging session, the car and the charger provide valuable information, such as text or LED lights that indicate the current charging status.
Of course, to ensure perfect correspondence between the BMW app display on your smartphone and the car's display (which represents the actual charging status), you should always keep the app updated and check for any new updates.
Finally, check your phone's connection: if it's missing or unstable, the charging status will almost certainly not update. Wait a few minutes and find a more stable and powerful connection.
