BMW i5 only starts charging after the car wakes up
Now we're revealing a very important "little secret" that helps us better understand some issues affecting the BMW i5, and beyond. In fact, for many electric and plug-in hybrid cars that experience charging problems, the cause is often the infotainment system software version or the firmware version of the app that manages the entire charging process. Usually, updating one or the other resolves the problem, at least in 75% to 80% of cases. This is also true for the BMW i5, whose scheduled charging, often, starts only after the owner has given a command (for example, unlocking the doors with the remote control or locking them). It's as if the charging, already programmed and scheduled, requires a "start" with any command to "wake up" the car. This shouldn't happen because the advantage of scheduling charging is precisely that it starts at the predefined time, without the need for additional commands. Most people who have encountered this issue with their BMW i5 have resolved it with a software and firmware update. If not, it's a good idea to check your settings to make sure there aren't any options that limit charging or affect scheduling. To rule out any issues, try manually charging by clearing all scheduled charging settings. If everything works properly, you can re-enter your preferred settings after updating the software.
