BMW iX may stop charging when the car locks on certain AC chargers

Many BMW iX owners have reported a very strange, unthinkable, and difficult to predict issue. This problem occurs only when the vehicle is connected to certain 220 Volt AC charging stations, while everything functions normally when charging with DC. The car is plugged into an AC charging station, and the charging session begins normally. However, when the driver locks the doors with the remote control (or even manually), the charging process stops. Conversely, if the doors are not locked, the charging session continues without issues. As mentioned, it is challenging to provide a logical explanation for the "link" between door locking and the vehicle’s charging process. BMW is aware of this issue and has provided a fix; however, in some cases, the problem still persists. The cars most affected by the issue are those produced in 2024 and the first half of 2025. BMW identified a flaw in the management system of the affected vehicles and introduced a software update in the second half of 2024 (November). In fact, it appears that the previous update, dated July 2024, is the cause of the issue. That update created several system issues, disrupting some functions, including AC charging, which conflicted with the central door locking. A recommendation: if you own a BMW iX that still has this issue, check the software version and request the appropriate update if necessary, to optimize charging of BMW iX.
