Collection: 16A Adapters for CEE

This collection brings together Voldt® CEE 16A adapters, each designed to provide a red 16A 5-pin CEE socket from a different type of power source. If you own a mobile EV charger or other equipment fitted with a red 16A 5-pin CEE plug, these adapters let you connect it to household wall outlets, campsite power bollards, other industrial sockets and public charging stations across Europe.

What is a CEE 16A adapter?

CEE is the common name for industrial plugs and sockets standardised under IEC 60309, colour-coded by voltage and phase configuration: red for three-phase (400V) and blue for single-phase (230V).

A CEE 16A 5-pin connector (red) has three phase conductors, a neutral and an earth. A CEE 16A 3-pin connector (blue) has a single phase conductor, a neutral and an earth.

The adapters in this collection all share the same output: a red 16A 5-pin CEE female socket. The input side varies, from domestic wall outlets and campsite sockets to public EV charging stations. Power flows from the wall, bollard or charging column into the adapter, which then provides the 5-pin CEE connection your equipment requires.

Types of adapters in this collection

The collection includes three categories, grouped by input source:

Domestic and international plug adapters

These compact adapters feature a domestic male plug on the input side and a red 16A 5-pin CEE socket on the output side. You plug the adapter into a standard household wall outlet, and your CEE-equipped device connects to the adapter's output. Available input formats include Schuko (Type F, most of continental Europe), Type G (UK), Type J (Switzerland) and Type L (Italy). Because the input is single-phase, only one phase of the 5-pin CEE output is energised.

CEE-to-CEE adapters

These adapters bridge the gap between different industrial CEE socket formats. They are used when the available power source is a CEE socket but its pin configuration or amperage rating does not match your equipment's plug. Available combinations include 16A 3-pin blue (campsite style) to 16A 5-pin red, 32A 5-pin red to 16A 5-pin red, and 32A 3-pin blue to 16A 5-pin red. When the input is a single-phase blue socket, only one phase of the red 5-pin output is energised, limiting available power to approximately 3.7 kW. When the input is a three-phase 32A socket, all three phases are active, and because the physical 16A CEE socket format only accepts 16A-rated equipment, the continuous current draw tops out at 16A, providing up to approximately 11 kW.

EV charging station adapters (Type 2 and Type 3)

These adapter cables connect your CEE-equipped mobile charger to public charging infrastructure. The input side plugs into a Type 2 or Type 3 (Scame) charging column outlet, and the output side provides a red 16A 5-pin CEE socket. The Type 2 connector is the current European EV charging standard. Type 3 is an older format still found on some legacy installations in France and Italy.

When to use a CEE 16A adapter

These adapters are designed for situations where your equipment has a red 16A 5-pin CEE plug but the available power source uses a different connector. Common scenarios include using a mobile EV charger at a campsite or marina with blue CEE bollards, connecting CEE equipment to a household outlet while travelling abroad, plugging into a 32A industrial socket when only a 16A CEE device is available, and accessing public Type 2 or Type 3 charging stations with a CEE-terminated charger.

In each case, the adapter provides the physical and electrical bridge between the available infrastructure and your device's 5-pin CEE plug.

Electrical ratings and safe use

All adapters in this collection provide a red 16A 5-pin CEE socket rated for a maximum continuous current of 16 amperes. This rating applies to the output regardless of the input source. These are passive adapters with no internal current-limiting electronics: the 16A CEE socket format mechanically restricts connection to 16A-rated equipment, which then draws within its own design limits.

When the input is single-phase (domestic outlets or blue CEE sockets), only one phase of the 5-pin output carries current. Your equipment will function normally if it supports single-phase operation, but available power is limited to approximately 3.7 kW. When the input is three-phase (red 32A 5-pin), all three output phases are active and the maximum available power reaches approximately 11 kW at 16A per phase.

Before selecting an adapter, confirm which socket type is available at your location, verify that your equipment supports the phase configuration the input provides, and check the current rating of the supply.
