Cupra EV Background

Even though Seat was a valued member of Volkswagen's vast group of brands, the German giant quietly decided to discontinue production of cars under this name in 2023. Fortunately, it doesn't mean that performance-oriented and aggressively designed cars featuring Volkswagen's technology would disappear. In fact, Seat might be gone, but Cupra (performance nameplate) is still here and ready to accept the future of EVs. In order to spice things up, Volkswagen decided to invest in exciting models and new ideas for Cupra, aiming at younger buyers who want value, performance, and distinction from other similar cars. This also means that Cupra bravely entered the EV market, and we at Voldt have already developed support charging products for its models and are looking forward to seeing Cupras on the roads.

Cupra EV Models

As you probably guessed, the Cupra EV range is based on Volkswagen's ID models. The range starts with Cupra Born; a compact hatchback based on the ID.3/ID.4 platform. Born is a hot hatch EV model with a rear-mounted electric motor and rear-wheel-drive that delivers an exhilarating driving experience. The latest Cupra EV is a modern and powerful Tavascan, which is also based on ID.3/ID.4 architecture but features an optional dual motor and all-wheel-drive setup, delivering a pretty convincing performance. Besides these two bona fide EVs, Cupra offers a couple of hybrids like Formentor and Leon (hatchback and estate), and for every Cupra model, Voldt has a charging cable solution on offer.

Cupra EV Technology

Interestingly, even though the technology, platform, and battery specs are identical to the ID.3 or ID.4, the Cupra models are engineered to feel different and be more dynamic and sportier. The Born is delivered with three battery sizes (45 kWh, 55 kWh, and 77 kWh), and the Tavascan has the 82-kWh battery pack, which translates to 335 hp and guarantees pretty convincing performance. Of course, both models feature lithium-ion batteries and 400 v battery architecture. When charging using an AC charger, the rate is 11 kW, but when connected to a DC charger, the rate climbs to 124 kW max, which means very short charging times. We at Voldt offer Cupra charging cable solutions for standardized household power outlets and beyond. Shuko and Commando sockets are available.
