Collection: Mercedes eCitan Charging cable

The Mercedes-Benz eCitan is a fully electric small van available in three body styles: the Panel Van in compact (4,498 mm) and long (4,922 mm) lengths, and the Tourer for passenger transport. All versions share the same drivetrain, a front-mounted 90 kW (122 hp) externally excited synchronous motor producing 245 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels. A 45 kWh lithium-ion battery sits in the underbody ahead of the rear axle, delivering a WLTP range of 266–283 km (165–176 miles) for the Panel Van and around 284 km (177 miles) for the Tourer. The charging inlet is a combined CCS2 socket located at the front of the van, behind the Mercedes star at the centre of the grille. The standard onboard AC charger accepts up to 11 kW on three phases, with a 22 kW three-phase charger available as an option. DC rapid charging is supported at up to 80 kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in approximately 38 minutes.

Charging times at a wallbox

At 11 kW from a three-phase wallbox, the eCitan charges from near-empty to full in approximately four and a half hours. With the optional 22 kW onboard charger and a compatible three-phase wallbox, this drops to around two and a quarter hours. On a single-phase home or depot wallbox with a correctly rated cable, the onboard charger draws 32A on one phase = 7.4 kW, completing a full charge in approximately six hours. A three-phase connection reaches the van's full 11 kW rate, but single-phase at 7.4 kW is practical for overnight depot charging on most schedules.

Picking the right cable

An 11 kW Voldt® Type 2 cable is the correct match for the eCitan at any three-phase wallbox or public AC post. On a single-phase home or depot wallbox (7.4 kW), however, an 11 kW three-phase cable bottlenecks the session to 3.7 kW, as its conductors are rated at 16A per phase rather than the 32A a single-phase wallbox delivers on one line. At 3.7 kW, a full charge takes around 12 hours, doubling the time compared to the six hours achievable at 7.4 kW. A 22 kW cable, with 32A-per-phase conductors, carries the full single-phase load and delivers 7.4 kW. For depots and homes with single-phase installations, a 22 kW cable is the practical choice. For vans fitted with the optional 22 kW charger, a 22 kW cable is the only option that unlocks the car's full AC rate at a 22 kW three-phase supply.

How long a cable do you need

Because the eCitan's charging port is at the front of the van, a 6-metre cable suits most depot or driveway installations where the van can be parked nose-in towards the wallbox. An 8 or 10-metre cable gives more flexibility for bays where parking orientation is fixed or the wallbox is not directly ahead. For multi-vehicle charging bays, car parks, or any location where the charge point position varies, lengths from 10 m upward remove any concern about reach, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 metres for installations with a longer run.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

The Voldt® portable CEE charging cable gives the eCitan flexible charging at construction sites, event venues, and any location without a fixed charge point. On a 16A three-phase CEE socket (11 kW), a full charge takes approximately four and a half hours. On a 32A three-phase CEE socket, standard 11 kW-equipped vans see the same result; vans with the optional 22 kW charger complete a full charge in around two and a quarter hours. On a 16A single-phase CEE socket (3.7 kW), a full charge takes approximately 12 hours, suited to an overnight site stop.

Red three-phase CEE sockets are found at industrial sites, workshops, and commercial depots. Standard European campsite hookup points use blue single-phase 16A CEE sockets, which cap output at 3.7 kW and result in the 12-hour charge time noted above. For drivers taking the van home, a standard domestic socket at 2.3 kW completes a full charge in around 19 to 20 hours, making it a slow but functional emergency fallback over an extended overnight stop when no wallbox or CEE supply is available.
