Audi Q4 e-tron does not remember charging locations

Audi Q4 e-tron forgetting your saved charging locations

You pull up at your usual public charger, expect the car to recognise it from the list of favourites in the MMI, and the slot is just gone. Or the home wallbox you added last week is missing from the My Audi app the next time you open it. Nothing else seems broken, but a small convenience feature has quietly disappeared.

This is almost always a software or sync issue, not a fault with the car or the charger. The good news: you can usually restore it yourself in a few minutes.

Why it happens

The Q4 e-tron stores favourite charging locations across two places: the on-board MMI and your linked My Audi account in the cloud. The two are supposed to stay in sync over the car's data connection. When that handshake fails, entries can be dropped, duplicated, or simply never written back.

Common triggers:

  • A weak or absent data connection at the moment you saved the location.
  • The car was offline (underground garage, basement parking) when the change tried to sync.
  • A pending software or app update interrupted the write.
  • Account or privacy settings in My Audi were changed and reset the stored profile.

How to get your locations back

  1. Check connectivity first. In the MMI, confirm the car has a live data connection. If it does not, drive somewhere with clean cellular coverage before saving anything.
  2. Verify My Audi permissions. In the app, open your profile and confirm location sharing and personalisation are enabled. If either was toggled off, saved entries can be wiped.
  3. Re-add the charger as a new favourite. Navigate to the location, save it again from the MMI, and wait until you see the confirmation. Do not power off the car straight away. Give it a minute to sync.
  4. Force a fresh sync. Sign out of My Audi on your phone and sign back in. This pulls the latest server-side list and often resurfaces entries that looked lost.
  5. If it keeps happening, do a soft reset of the infotainment system (press and hold the rotary controller, or follow the procedure for your model year). This clears any stuck state without touching driving settings.

When to involve Audi

If saved locations vanish repeatedly even after a fresh sign-in and reset, that points to a firmware bug on the head unit. Note your software version (MMI > Settings > System info), bring it to an Audi service centre, and ask whether a newer release is available for your VIN. Some early Q4 builds got specific patches for exactly this behaviour.

While you are sorting the favourites list, it is also worth confirming nothing else on the charging side is contributing to a poor experience. A clean handshake at the charger, including a healthy cable like a Voldt® Audi Q4 e-tron Type 2 charging cable, helps the car log clean sessions, which is exactly what the favourites system relies on.

Bottom line

Lost favourites are almost always a sync problem, not a hardware one. Check connectivity, re-add the location, sign out and back into My Audi, and only escalate to the dealer if the issue is persistent across multiple sessions.
