Collection: Audi charging cable

Audi's electric and plug-in hybrid range spans everything from compact daily drivers to full-size SUVs, and the Q4 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, A3 Sportback TFSI e and Q5 TFSI e each approach charging from a slightly different starting point. What they share is a Type 2 inlet, which makes a single Voldt® cable compatible across all four. Where they diverge is onboard charging capacity, and understanding that difference is the first step to choosing the right cable.

Audi charging specs and cable recommendations

The Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q6 e-tron are fully electric models with an 11 kW AC onboard charger. A Voldt® 11 kW three-phase cable matches that capacity and works at any compatible wall box or public charge point. For drivers who want to stay ahead of infrastructure upgrades, a 22 kW cable future-proofs the setup without any day-to-day penalty.

The Audi A3 Sportback TFSI e and Audi Q5 TFSI e are plug-in hybrids with a 3.7 kW onboard charger as standard, with an optional upgrade to 7.4 kW. A Voldt® 7.4 kW single-phase cable maximises charging speed on either configuration. All four models use a Type 2 inlet, so any Voldt® Type 2 charging cable connects without an adapter.

Getting cable length right

The distance between your charge point and the car's inlet varies more than most people expect, and it changes depending on which direction you pull in, which side of the car the inlet is on, and whether the cable needs to clear a kerb or run along a wall. A 4 m cable works in a contained garage setup where the wall box is installed directly beside the parking space. For standard driveways and carports, 6 m or 8 m covers both inlet positions without pulling taut or leaving large coils on the ground.

At public charge points, the situation is less predictable. Bays fill up, angles vary, and the post is not always where you expect it. An 8 m cable handles most of these scenarios comfortably. If you regularly charge at workplaces or destination chargers with longer cable runs, or share a home charge point between two vehicles, 10 m or 15 m removes the variables entirely.

Cable length Best suited for
4 m Compact garage with wall box directly beside the parking spot
6 m Standard driveway or carport, inlet on either side of the vehicle
8 m Flexible home and public charging, covers most charge point layouts
10 m Larger vehicles, shared parking, or charge points set further from the bay
15 m Remote charge points, multi-vehicle setups, or commercial locations

A portable charger worth keeping in the boot

A Voldt® portable EV charger plugs into a standard Schuko socket for 3.7 kW or a CEE industrial outlet for up to 22 kW three-phase, with no wall box installation required. Rated IP67, it handles outdoor use in all conditions. PHEV drivers in particular get consistent value from keeping one in the boot: battery capacity on the A3 Sportback TFSI e and Q5 TFSI e is smaller than a full BEV, which means faster recharge times and more frequent top-ups on the road.
