BMW iX1 Charging cable

BMW iX1 Charging cable

11kW
The BMW iX1 has a charging capacity of 11kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 11kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 11kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: BMW iX1 Charging cable

The BMW iX1 is available in two fully electric variants: the front-wheel-drive eDrive20 (150 kW, single motor) and the all-wheel-drive xDrive30 (230 kW, dual motor). Both share a 64.7 kWh usable battery and a standard 11 kW three-phase onboard charger, with a 22 kW three-phase unit available as a factory option. The Type 2 charging port and CCS inlet sit on the right rear quarter panel. DC rapid charging runs at up to 130 kW, covering 10 to 80 per cent in around 29 minutes. WLTP range for the eDrive20 reaches up to 319 miles in current production (up to 295 miles in pre-March 2026 cars), while the xDrive30 covers up to 290 miles (up to 272 miles in earlier builds). Charging hardware is identical across both variants and all model years, so cable choice is the same whichever iX1 you drive.

Choosing the right cable for the BMW iX1

The iX1 charges via a Type 2 connector, making a Voldt® Type 2 charging cable the correct choice for both the eDrive20 and xDrive30. In the UK, where most home wallboxes deliver single-phase power, the rating of the cable directly affects how fast the car charges. A Voldt® 22 kW cable carries current at up to 32A, which on a single-phase connection translates to 7.4 kW: enough to replenish the full 64.7 kWh battery from near-empty in roughly ten hours. An 11 kW cable, rated at 16A, limits the same connection to 3.7 kW and roughly doubles that time. For any iX1 on a standard UK home supply, the 22 kW cable is the more practical option by a clear margin.

If your iX1 was specified with the optional 22 kW three-phase onboard charger, the same cable also unlocks the full charge rate at three-phase public posts, bringing a complete charge down to around three and a half hours. The right rear port position means reversing into a bay puts the connector within easy reach of most charge post layouts, and a six-metre cable handles this neatly. For forward-pull-in bays, driveways where the wallbox sits on the opposite side, or public posts set further back from the parking space, an eight-metre cable is the more versatile default. Voldt® Type 2 cables are available in 6, 8, 10, and 15-metre lengths.

Portable charging wherever you stop

A three-phase red commando socket (CEE) at a holiday rental, workshop, or rural property turns any stop into a practical charging opportunity. For iX1s with the standard 11 kW onboard charger, the Voldt® 11 kW red CEE portable charger delivers the full 11 kW at 16A per phase, covering a complete charge from near-empty in around six and a half hours: a comfortable overnight top-up. If your iX1 was ordered with the optional 22 kW onboard charger, the Voldt® 22 kW red CEE portable charger delivers the full 22 kW at 32A per phase, bringing that down to around three and a half hours. Both chargers feature adjustable current settings, so you can dial the output to match whatever the local supply can handle.

At campsites, marinas, and touring parks with blue single-phase commando sockets, the Voldt® blue CEE portable charger charges at up to 3.7 kW. On the iX1's 64.7 kWh battery, this rate is best suited to longer stays: a two-night stop or an extended weekend gives the car time to charge steadily without depending on a single overnight session. Where only a standard three-pin socket is available, the Voldt® three-pin portable charger delivers up to 2.8 kW, within the limits of what your household wiring can sustain. A built-in thermal sensor monitors the connection temperature throughout and adjusts the current automatically, so the charger manages itself on older circuits without any manual intervention. On a battery of this size, the three-pin charger works well for adding a useful stretch of range during longer visits to family or friends, or supplementing your main charging routine at a property without a dedicated wallbox.
