Collection: Mercedes E 400 e Charging cable

The Mercedes-Benz E 400e 4MATIC is the high-performance plug-in hybrid variant of the W214 E-Class, available as a Saloon and an Estate. It pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 95 kW electric motor for a combined output of 280 kW (381 PS) and 650 Nm of torque, with all-wheel drive as standard. The 0–100 km/h time is 5.7 seconds. The 25.4 kWh battery delivers a WLTP electric range of up to 109 km, and the car can travel on electricity alone at speeds up to 140 km/h. The onboard AC charger is 11 kW three-phase, and a 55 kW DC rapid charging option is available. The Type 2 charging port is located on the left front flank on both body styles.

Battery and electric range

The 25.4 kWh lithium-ion battery is shared across the E-Class PHEV range and delivers a WLTP electric range of up to 109 km in the E 400e 4MATIC, with the modest reduction compared to the E 300e reflecting the additional weight of the all-wheel-drive system. Under real-world conditions most drivers achieve between 80 and 95 km of electric range in moderate temperatures. The electric motor delivers 440 Nm from rest, and the combined torque figure of 650 Nm gives the E 400e a notably strong surge of acceleration that is available from the first moment of throttle input.

Charging at home and at public wallboxes

At an 11 kW three-phase wallbox or public AC point, a full charge from empty takes approximately 2 hours 45 minutes. At a single-phase 7.4 kW supply, the same charge takes approximately 3 hours 40 minutes. Where the optional 55 kW DC charging is fitted, the battery charges from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes and from empty to full in approximately 30 minutes, useful for top-ups at public fast chargers on longer routes.

Choosing the right cable

The 11 kW three-phase onboard charger is fully matched by an 11 kW Type 2 cable, which covers every public AC charging point and compatible wallbox across Europe at the car's full AC rate. For those planning ahead for a future vehicle with 22 kW three-phase AC charging, a 22 kW cable is the sensible upgrade: fully compatible with the E 400e 4MATIC today and ready for any future vehicle without any change of hardware.

From port to charge point

The charging port is on the left front flank on both the Saloon and Estate, so pulling forward into a charging bay or parking nose-first to the wallbox works naturally in most home and public setups. A 6 metre cable covers most home configurations comfortably. For public charging, an 8 metre cable provides reliable reach across varied bay layouts and post positions. For greater reach, 10 and 15 metre cables are available, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 metres for dedicated or commercial installations.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

A portable CEE charger extends the E 400e's charging options to any location with an industrial socket. On a 16A single-phase CEE socket (3.7 kW), a full charge from empty takes approximately 6 hours 55 minutes. On a 16A three-phase CEE socket (11 kW), a full charge completes in approximately 2 hours 45 minutes, identical to a dedicated wallbox at home. A 32A three-phase CEE socket delivers the same 11 kW rate for the same charge time. Portable chargers are available from 3.7 kW to 22 kW, all fully compatible with the E 400e 4MATIC.

Voldt® charging cables are CE, UKCA and TÜV certified and manufactured according to IATF 16949 automotive quality standards. Single-piece moulded connectors, no glue or screws.
