Mercedes E 400 e Charging cable

Mercedes E 400 e Charging cable

11kW
The Mercedes E 400 e has a charging capacity of 11kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 11kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 11kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Mercedes E 400 e Charging cable

The Mercedes-Benz E 400e 4MATIC (W214) is the performance plug-in hybrid in the E-Class range, available as a Saloon and an Estate. It combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 95 kW permanent-magnet electric motor for a combined output of 280 kW (381 PS) and 650 Nm of torque, with all-wheel drive as standard. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.3 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The 25.4 kWh gross battery (19.5 kWh usable) delivers a WLTP electric range of up to 109 km depending on configuration. The onboard AC charger is 11 kW three-phase, and a 55 kW DC rapid charging option is available. The Type 2 charging port is located on the left rear flank.

Battery and electric range

The lithium-ion battery sits beneath the rear floor and provides a WLTP electric range of between 97 and 109 km depending on wheel size and equipment level. The electric motor delivers 440 Nm from a standstill, and the car defaults to electric-only mode at startup, switching to the combustion engine under higher loads or when the battery is depleted. Electric-only driving is possible at speeds up to 140 km/h.

Charging at home and at public stations

The 11 kW three-phase onboard charger fills the 19.5 kWh usable battery from empty in approximately two hours at a compatible three-phase wallbox or public AC point. On a single-phase supply, the onboard charger draws a maximum of 16A on one phase, which limits charging power to 3.7 kW regardless of the wallbox rating. At 3.7 kW, a full charge takes approximately five and a half hours. For faster charging on the road, the optional 55 kW DC connection brings the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes. A full 0–100% DC charge takes around 40 to 45 minutes once the battery management system's end-of-charge taper is accounted for.

Choosing the right cable

The E 400e's 11 kW onboard charger operates at 16A per phase. An 11 kW Voldt® Type 2 cable is the correct match: it delivers the full 11 kW at any three-phase wallbox or public Type 2 point, and on a single-phase supply it carries the 3.7 kW the car draws without limitation. A 22 kW cable is fully compatible, but the car's onboard charger will still cap the session at 11 kW (three-phase) or 3.7 kW (single-phase), so a higher-rated cable provides no speed advantage for this vehicle. For owners considering a future car with a 22 kW onboard charger, a 22 kW cable covers both scenarios.

Length: finding the right fit

The charging port is on the left rear flank on both the Saloon and Estate, so reversing to the wallbox is the most practical approach at home, keeping the cable short and off the vehicle's paintwork. A 6-metre cable suits most home driveways and garage configurations. For public charging, an 8-metre cable handles the variation in post positions and bay layouts across different stations. For greater reach, 10 and 15-metre options are available, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 metres for dedicated or commercial installations.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

The Voldt® portable CEE charging cable extends charging options to any location with an industrial or domestic socket. On a 16A three-phase CEE socket (11 kW), a full charge completes in approximately two hours, matching the speed of a home wallbox. A 32A three-phase CEE socket (22 kW available) delivers the same 11 kW rate, as the car's onboard charger caps at 11 kW. On a 16A single-phase CEE socket (3.7 kW), a full charge from empty takes approximately five and a half hours. On a standard domestic socket at 3.7 kW (16A), a full charge also takes around five and a half hours, making an overnight plug-in a straightforward option when no wallbox is available.

Red three-phase CEE sockets are found at industrial sites, workshops, and some commercial marinas. Standard European campsite hookup points use blue single-phase 16A CEE sockets, which cap output at 3.7 kW and result in the five-and-a-half-hour charge time noted above. For a battery of this size, a campsite overnight stop is entirely practical at that rate.
