The Mercedes-Benz EQV 300 is a fully electric large-format MPV built on the V-Class platform, available in Long and Extra-Long wheelbases seating up to eight. Both share the same 90 kWh usable battery, an 11 kW three-phase onboard charger, and a WLTP range of up to 226 miles. At 11 kW the EQV gains roughly 25 miles of range per hour and completes a full charge in around nine and a half hours. Unlike every other model in the Mercedes EQ range, the Type 2 and CCS charging ports sit on the left front flank, not the right rear: a detail that changes how you park at every charger.

The cable that keeps a fleet moving

Most UK homes supply single-phase power to the wallbox. On that connection, a Voldt® Type 2 charging cable rated at 22 kW is the practical choice for the EQV. Its conductors carry 32A per phase, so the cable delivers the full 7.4 kW a single-phase wallbox provides on one line: a complete charge in around thirteen and a half hours, inside an overnight window for any vehicle that returns to base by early evening. An 11 kW cable, rated at 16A per phase, would hold the same wallbox to 3.7 kW and roughly double that time. At public and workplace chargers that supply three-phase power, both cables deliver the car's 11 kW ceiling equally, so operators with a three-phase installation at the depot can choose the 11 kW cable as the direct match and the more economical option.

Because the charging port is on the left front flank rather than the right rear, the natural approach is nose-in: drive forward into the bay so the port faces the charge point. This is the opposite of most passenger EVs, and it matters when choosing cable length. The EQV itself is over five metres long, and at public bays designed for shorter cars the post may end up further from the port than expected. A 6-metre cable handles most home and depot setups. Eight metres is the reliable everyday length for mixed use. Ten metres adds reach at public chargers where the post sits behind or beside the bay, and 15 metres covers hotel car parks, event venues, and commercial premises where parking orientation is out of your hands.

Portable charging between jobs

A Voldt® portable charger with a red three-phase commando plug connects to 16A three-phase CEE sockets and delivers the EQV's full 11 kW. A complete charge takes around nine and a half hours, the same pace as a dedicated wallbox. Red CEE sockets are found at workshops, industrial units, farm buildings, and marinas: for an operator covering rural events or hotel transfers, this charger turns any accessible three-phase outlet into a full-speed overnight charging point. The current is adjustable between 8A and 16A to match the supply.

The Voldt® blue CEE portable charger connects to the 16A single-phase sockets at campsites, event sites, and commercial premises, charging at 3.7 kW. Over a multi-day booking it steadily rebuilds range and keeps the vehicle operational without a rapid-charger detour. The Voldt® three-pin portable charger plugs into any standard UK domestic socket at up to 2.8 kW, within what the household wiring can sustain. Connected overnight at a client's property or a rural venue, it adds a useful top-up for the return leg. A built-in thermal sensor monitors the plug temperature throughout the charge and lowers the current automatically if the connection warms up, protecting both the vehicle and the wiring.
