Mercedes GLE 500e Plug-In Charging cable

Mercedes GLE 500e Plug-In Charging cable

3.7kW
The Mercedes GLE 500e Plug-In has a charging capacity of 3,7kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 3,7kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 3,7kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Mercedes GLE 500e Plug-In Charging cable

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 500e 4MATIC is a large plug-in hybrid SUV from the W166 generation, combining a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine with an 85 kW electric motor for a combined system output of 325 kW (442 PS) and 650 Nm of torque. All four wheels are driven via a seven-speed automatic gearbox, and 0–100 km/h takes 5.3 seconds. The 8.8 kWh usable lithium-ion battery provides an electric-only range of approximately 30 km under NEDC conditions. The onboard AC charger is 3.7 kW single-phase. There is no DC rapid charging on this model. The Type 2 charging port is located on the left side of the vehicle, between the front and rear doors.

Battery and electric range

The GLE 500e's 8.8 kWh usable battery is designed primarily for short-distance electric running and city driving, where the electric motor operates independently at lower speeds and loads. Real-world electric range is typically in the 20–25 km region depending on temperature, load, and driving style. For longer journeys the petrol engine takes over seamlessly, and the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system remains active in all modes.

Charging at home and at public wallboxes

The 3.7 kW single-phase onboard charger limits charging speed regardless of the wallbox or AC point connected. At any supply rated at 3.7 kW or above, a full charge from empty takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. Connecting to a higher-rated wallbox, whether 7.4 kW, 11 kW, or 22 kW, makes no practical difference: the car draws only what its onboard charger accepts. Most GLE 500e owners top up overnight, starting each day with a full battery for the electric portion of their driving.

Choosing the right cable

The 3.7 kW single-phase onboard charger is fully served by an 11 kW Type 2 cable. This covers every public AC charging point and home wallbox across Europe, and the car will charge at its maximum 3.7 kW rate regardless of the cable's rated capacity. A 22 kW cable is the forward-looking choice for those planning ahead for a future vehicle with higher AC charging capability: fully compatible with the GLE 500e today and ready for any future vehicle without any change of hardware.

Cable reach and length

The charging port is on the left side of the vehicle between the front and rear doors. Positioning the car with the left flank close to the charge point is the most practical approach. A 6 metre cable suits most home configurations comfortably. For public charging, an 8 metre cable covers a wider range of bay layouts and post positions. For greater reach, 10 and 15 metre cables are available, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 metres for dedicated or commercial installations.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

A portable CEE charger is a practical addition for GLE 500e drivers who charge away from a fixed installation. Because the onboard charger is single-phase and capped at 3.7 kW, socket type has a limited impact on charge speed. On a 16A single-phase CEE socket (3.7 kW), a full charge from empty takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. On a 16A three-phase CEE socket, the car draws 3.7 kW from one phase, giving the same 2 hours 30 minutes. On a 32A three-phase CEE socket, the available current per phase is higher but the onboard charger remains the limiting factor at 3.7 kW, so charge time is identical. Portable chargers are available from 3.7 kW to 22 kW, all fully compatible with the GLE 500e.
