Collection: Renault Captur E-Tech charging cable

The Renault Captur E-Tech Plug-in Hybrid combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a 9.8 kWh battery, delivering up to 50 km of pure-electric range on the WLTP mixed cycle. For most daily driving, school runs, commutes and errands, that covers the full trip on electricity alone. The onboard charger draws a maximum of 3.6 kW from any AC source, meaning a full charge from empty takes around three hours on a wallbox or just over four hours from a standard domestic socket. There is no DC fast charging. The Type 2 charge port sits on the right rear flank, opposite the fuel filler.

Making the most of the electric range

The Captur PHEV delivers its lowest running costs when the battery is topped up daily. With a 9.8 kWh battery, that takes no special effort: three hours on a wallbox, or plugged in overnight from a standard socket, and the car starts every morning with a full electric buffer. Owners who skip the plug are running a heavier petrol car without the benefit of the electric drivetrain. Regular charging is what turns the Captur from a hybrid into a genuinely economical daily driver.

Choosing a charging cable

The Captur's 3.6 kW onboard charger is the limiting factor on charge speed, not the cable or the power source. A Voldt® Type 2 charging cable of any power rating delivers the car's full 3.6 kW without restriction. A 22 kW cable is nonetheless the practical choice: it works identically on this car and carries its full capacity forward to a future vehicle. The Captur PHEV is often a household's first step into electrified driving, and many owners move to a full BEV within a few years. A 22 kW cable bridges that transition without a second purchase.

The right-rear port means reversing into a bay brings it closest to the charging post. A 4 or 6-metre cable covers most home driveways comfortably. An 8-metre cable is the practical standard for mixed home and public use. A 10-metre cable handles awkward bay layouts, and a 15-metre cable covers hotel car parks and longer driveways without difficulty.

Portable charging on the move

The Voldt® portable CEE charging cable is well matched to the Captur PHEV. A blue single-phase 16A CEE socket delivers 3.7 kW, effectively the car's full charge rate, completing a charge from empty in around three hours. Red three-phase CEE sockets provide the same 3.6 kW, as the car's onboard charger is the ceiling regardless of the supply.

The Voldt® Schuko portable charger draws 2.3 kW (10A safe limit) from a standard domestic socket, completing a full charge in just over four hours. For a 9.8 kWh battery, that is a perfectly practical everyday option: plug in when you get home, unplug the next morning.
