Renault Scenic Charging cable

The Renault Scenic E-Tech electric is a front-wheel-drive family crossover, built at Douai in northern France since 2024 and voted European Car of the Year in the same year. UK showrooms are led by the 87 kWh Long Range with a 220hp motor, joined for a period by a 60 kWh Comfort Range in techno trim. AC charging arrives as either an 11 kW or a 22 kW three-phase onboard charger, depending on model year, market and options, and both of them draw 32 A when only one phase is available. The Type 2 and CCS inlets share a single flap on the left front wing, which is the passenger side on a right-hand-drive car.

Renault Scenic E-Tech: Which Type 2 charging cable should I buy?

A 22 kW Voldt® Type 2 charging cable carries 32 A in each of its three conductors, and that is the specification to buy for any Scenic E-Tech, whichever charger the car left the factory with. British homes are single-phase, so the cable's first job is to pass the 32 A a wallbox can deliver: at 7.4 kW the 87 kWh battery reaches full in around 14 hours and the 60 kWh battery in around nine and a half hours, both of which sit inside an off-peak window with the car on the drive. A cable rated at 16 A signals 16 A to the car, which holds a single-phase supply to 3.7 kW, so the heavier conductors are what let a home wallbox run at its own ceiling. Away from home the two factory chargers finally separate: at a three-phase 22 kW destination post a 22 kW car takes the Long Range battery from empty to full in about five hours, while an 11 kW car works to its own limit and needs about nine and a half. One cable answers both, which saves digging through the order paperwork or the My Renault app before you plug in. If you already know your car carries the 11 kW charger and three-phase power is available to you, an 11 kW cable matches it exactly, while the 22 kW version leaves headroom for the next car on the drive.

An inlet at the left front corner rewards driving nose-in, since the flap then sits nearest the post in most bays, and on a street park facing forward it ends up on the pavement side, clear of passing traffic. A six-metre cable is enough in a garage or alongside a wallbox within reach of the car's front corner. An eight-metre cable is the sensible default for mixed home and public use. A ten-metre cable copes with public bays where the post stands behind the car or across from it, and a fifteen-metre cable covers hotel car parks, shared parking and long driveways.

Charging from a socket rather than a post

The Voldt® 32 A red CEE portable charger is adjustable from 8 A to 32 A, and at the top of that range on a three-phase 32 A red socket a 22 kW car fills the 87 kWh battery in about five hours and the 60 kWh battery in about three and a half hours, while an 11 kW car needs about nine and a half hours and six and a half hours for the same two packs. Turned down to 16 A it suits a 16 A red socket and delivers 11 kW. Campsites and caravan hookups run on blue sockets instead, and the Voldt® 16 A blue CEE portable charger adjusts between 8 A and 16 A: twelve hours at the top setting returns roughly 38 kWh, worth around 125 miles, and the lower settings suit older site wiring, where 8 A still puts about 19 kWh in by morning. Since the Scenic is rated to tow a braked trailer, a small caravan and a blue socket make a realistic pairing.

For a domestic three-pin socket, the Voldt® three-pin portable charger adjusts from 8 A to 13 A and delivers up to 2.8 kW, within the limits of what your wiring or installation can sustain. The 13 A figure is the ceiling BS 1363 allows for a plug of this type rather than a limit of the charger, and an overnight session at that setting returns about 28 kWh, roughly 95 miles of everyday running. A built-in thermal sensor monitors the temperature of the connection throughout and adjusts the current automatically. Cars ordered from the 2025 update carry a bidirectional charger and can send up to 3.7 kW back out of the battery through a V2L adapter, which turns a family crossover into a power supply for tools, a kettle or an e-bike.
