Collection: Smart EQ Fortwo charging cable

The Smart EQ Fortwo is engineered specifically for urban mobility, combining an extremely compact footprint with a battery sized for efficient city driving. The 17.6 kWh battery is paired with a 4.6 kW single-phase onboard charger as standard. A 22 kW three-phase onboard charger is available as a paid option, and gives the Fortwo one of the fastest AC charging times relative to battery size in the EV market. With the 22 kW charger, the battery recharges from empty in under an hour at a three-phase public post. With the standard 4.6 kW charger, a full charge takes around three and a half hours. The Type 2 charging port sits on the right rear flank, where the fuel filler would be on a conventional Smart.

The best charging cable for the Smart EQ Fortwo

For the optional 22 kW variant, a Voldt® 22 kW Type 2 charging cable allows the Fortwo to fully exploit its onboard charger at any three-phase public post. For the standard 4.6 kW variant, an 11 kW cable covers all AC scenarios equally well and is worth having if you plan to use it with a higher-capacity vehicle later.

The right-rear port mirrors the position of a conventional fuel filler, so reversing into a bay puts the post closest to the port. Because the Fortwo is so compact, cable management is straightforward in almost any bay. For most home setups a 6-metre cable is comfortable. An 8-metre cable is the versatile everyday standard for mixed home and public use. A 10-metre cable adds convenience at public charge posts set further from the bay. A 15-metre cable covers hotel car parks and any situation where the post is not directly adjacent to the parking space.

Portable charging away from home

The Voldt® portable CEE charging cable is available up to 22 kW via three-phase CEE. For the Fortwo with the optional 22 kW charger, output is matched automatically, and the small 16.7 kWh usable battery charges fully in under an hour at a 32A three-phase CEE socket. For the standard 4.6 kW variant, output is matched to the onboard charger, with a full charge in around three and a half hours. Either way, any campsite or marina with a CEE socket covers a full charge well within a single evening. The Schuko portable charger delivers up to 3.7 kW where only a standard socket is available.
