Volkswagen ID.7 charging cable

Volkswagen ID.7 charging cable

11kW
The Volkswagen ID.7 has a charging capacity of 11kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 11kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 11kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Volkswagen ID.7 charging cable

The Volkswagen ID.7 is a fully electric executive car available in two body styles: a five-door liftback (ED2) and an estate known as the Tourer (ED5). Both share the MEB platform and are offered in three powertrain configurations. The Pro uses a 77 kWh usable battery (82 kWh gross) with a 210 kW (286 hp) rear motor, delivering a WLTP range of up to 621 km (386 miles) as a liftback and around 605 km (376 miles) as a Tourer. The Pro S uses an 86 kWh usable battery (91 kWh gross) with the same 210 kW motor, extending WLTP range to 702 km (436 miles) for the liftback and 690 km (429 miles) for the Tourer. The GTX adds a second front motor for 250 kW (340 hp) all-wheel drive on the same 86 kWh battery, with a WLTP range of 577 km (358 miles), reaching 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.

The combined CCS2 charging inlet is on the right rear flank of the vehicle across all variants and body styles. The onboard AC charger is 11 kW three-phase on every ID.7. For DC rapid charging, both the liftback and Tourer on the 77 kWh battery peak at 175 kW, while the Pro S and GTX on the 86 kWh battery accept up to 200 kW; a 10–80% charge takes approximately 26–28 minutes at a compatible rapid charger across the range.

Wallbox charging

At 11 kW from a three-phase wallbox, the 77 kWh battery charges from empty to full in approximately 7 hours 45 minutes, and the 86 kWh battery in around 8 hours 35 minutes. On a single-phase supply, the three-phase onboard charger draws one phase at 3.7 kW, extending a full charge on the 77 kWh battery to around 23 hours and on the 86 kWh to around 25 hours 30 minutes. A three-phase wallbox connection makes full use of the ID.7's onboard charger for regular overnight charging.

Cable choice

With an 11 kW three-phase onboard charger across the entire range, an 11 kW Voldt® Type 2 cable is the correct match for every ID.7 variant at any wallbox or public AC charge point. It handles the full 11 kW charging capability across all battery sizes and body styles, and connects to every Type 2 installation built to the IEC 62196-2 standard. A 22 kW cable is equally well suited and adds forward compatibility for any future vehicle with a 22 kW onboard charger.

Picking the right length

Voldt® Type 2 cables are available in lengths from 4 m up to 40 m. A 6 m cable suits most home wallbox installations, providing comfortable reach from a wall-mounted charger to the right rear inlet without excess cable on the ground. An 8 m or 10 m cable gives more flexibility for garages and driveways where the car cannot always park squarely relative to the charge point. For public charge points, workplace bays, and any installation where the charger position varies, lengths from 10 m upward remove any concern about reach, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 m for installations where a longer run is genuinely needed.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

The ID.7's large batteries make the Voldt® portable EV charger most practical for extended top-ups at destinations rather than full cycles, though it is a genuinely useful option at campsites, business travel stops, and any location with industrial CEE sockets. The three-phase onboard charger draws across all three phases at a three-phase socket: a 32A three-phase CEE socket provides 22 kW at the outlet but the car's 11 kW ceiling applies, giving the same result as a 16A three-phase socket which supplies exactly 11 kW. A full charge from empty takes approximately 7 hours 45 minutes on the 77 kWh battery and around 8 hours 35 minutes on the 86 kWh battery. At a 16A single-phase CEE socket, the charger draws one phase at 3.7 kW, extending a full charge on the 77 kWh to approximately 23 hours and on the 86 kWh to around 25 hours 30 minutes, which suits a multi-day stop rather than a quick top-up. The 32A three-phase portable charger reaches the ID.7's full 11 kW ceiling and is the most versatile option across a mixed household or fleet with varying vehicle types.

Voldt® charging cables are CE, UKCA and TÜV certified and manufactured according to IATF 16949 automotive quality standards. Single-piece moulded connectors, no glue or screws.
