Volkswagen Multivan Charging cable

Volkswagen Multivan Charging cable

3.6kW
The Volkswagen Multivan has a charging capacity of 3,7kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 3,7kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 3,7kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Volkswagen Multivan Charging cable

The Volkswagen Multivan eHybrid is a plug-in hybrid large MPV based on the T7 generation, available in short- and long-wheelbase configurations with up to seven seats. The T7 was introduced in 2021 with a 1.4 TSI eHybrid producing 218 hp, and updated in 2024 with a significantly revised 1.5 TSI evo2 eHybrid 4MOTION system producing 245 hp with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. Both generations share the same platform, body style, and charging port position on the front flank of the vehicle, but differ substantially in battery capacity, electric range, and charging capability.

The original 1.4 eHybrid (2021–2023) uses a 13 kWh battery (10.4 kWh usable), a single front-axle electric motor, and a 3.6 kW single-phase onboard AC charger. There is no DC charging capability. The WLTP electric range is 46–50 km (29–31 miles). The 2024 1.5 eHybrid 4MOTION doubles usable battery capacity to 19.7 kWh, adds a second rear electric motor for all-wheel drive, and introduces an 11 kW three-phase onboard AC charger alongside DC rapid charging at up to 50 kW via CCS2, enabling a 10–80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. The WLTP electric range extends to 92–95 km (57–59 miles).

Wallbox charging

On the original 1.4 eHybrid, the 3.6 kW single-phase charger fills the 10.4 kWh usable battery from empty in approximately 3 hours 10 minutes at any wallbox or public AC charge point. On the 2024 1.5 eHybrid 4MOTION, the 11 kW three-phase charger fills the 19.7 kWh usable battery in approximately 2 hours from a three-phase wallbox. On a single-phase supply, the 1.5 eHybrid's charger draws one phase at 3.7 kW, extending a full charge to around 5 hours 50 minutes.

Which cable to use

An 11 kW Voldt® Type 2 cable covers both generations of the Multivan eHybrid. On the original 1.4 eHybrid, it handles the 3.6 kW single-phase charger without any restriction. On the 2024 1.5 eHybrid 4MOTION, it matches the standard 11 kW three-phase onboard charger exactly. A 22 kW cable is equally well suited to both generations and adds forward compatibility for any future vehicle with a higher-rated onboard charger.

From port to charge point

Voldt® Type 2 cables are available in lengths from 4 m up to 40 m. Because the Multivan's charging port is on the front flank rather than the rear, the van typically needs to be parked nose-first towards the wallbox. A 6 m cable suits most home installations where that orientation is straightforward. An 8 m or 10 m cable gives more flexibility for driveways and garages where the parking position relative to the wallbox is less direct. For public charge points and workplace bays where the charger position varies, lengths from 10 m upward remove any concern about reach, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 m for installations where a longer run is genuinely needed.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

The compact battery sizes of both Multivan eHybrid generations make them well suited to portable CEE charging, with full charges achievable in practical timeframes from industrial sockets. The Voldt® portable EV charger connects via the Type 2 inlet and is available in models from 3.7 kW to 22 kW. On the original 1.4 eHybrid, the single-phase 3.6 kW charger draws at its ceiling from any CEE socket type, giving a full charge in approximately 3 hours 10 minutes regardless of whether the socket is single-phase or three-phase. On the 2024 1.5 eHybrid 4MOTION, a 32A or 16A three-phase CEE socket delivers the car's full 11 kW, giving a full charge in approximately 2 hours; at a 16A single-phase CEE socket, the charger draws one phase at 3.7 kW, extending a full charge to around 5 hours 50 minutes. The 32A three-phase portable charger is the most versatile choice for a household or fleet that includes both generations of the Multivan or other vehicles with higher-rated onboard chargers.

Voldt® charging cables are CE, UKCA and TÜV certified and manufactured according to IATF 16949 automotive quality standards. Single-piece moulded connectors, no glue or screws.
