Charging cable BMW 330e

Charging cable BMW 330e

3.7kW
The BMW 330e has a charging capacity of 3,7kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 3,7kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 3,7kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Charging cable BMW 330e

The BMW 330e occupies a specific and increasingly well-justified position in the 3 Series range: a petrol engine that carries you on long journeys and beyond any charging infrastructure, paired with a battery large enough to cover most daily driving without burning a drop of fuel. It is a practical compromise in the best sense, and the 2024 update made it considerably more convincing. The pre-2024 330e carries a 12 kWh gross battery with around 9 kWh usable, an electric-only range of roughly 35 to 40 km under real-world conditions, and a 3.7 kW single-phase onboard AC charger. At that rate a full charge takes around three hours, which is fast enough to top up comfortably at home or at a workplace charger during a working day. There is no DC rapid charging capability on any 330e variant. The 2024 facelift changed the picture substantially. The battery grew to 22.3 kWh gross with 19.5 kWh usable, nearly doubling capacity without changing the physical footprint of the pack. More importantly, the 330e became the first plug-in hybrid in BMW's range to support three-phase 11 kW AC charging, a jump from 3.7 kW that cuts full charge time to around hours and fifteen minutes on a compatible three-phase supply. At a single-phase 7.4 kW wallbox, the same battery charges in approximately three and a half hours, still a significant improvement over the earlier generation. The electric-only range in the 2024 saloon reaches up to 63 miles WLTP. No DC charging is available on either generation, which is consistent with the 330e's PHEV architecture rather than a shortcoming specific to BMW. The charging port is on the left front flank on all 330e variants, saloon and Touring, rear-wheel drive and xDrive alike.

Choosing a cable for the BMW 330e

All 330e variants use a Type 2 connector, so a Voldt® Type 2 charging cable is the right choice across both generations.

For pre-2024 cars with the 3.7 kW charger, a 3.7 kW or 7.4 kW cable is the appropriate match. The charger will not exceed 3.7 kW regardless of what the cable or wallbox is rated at, so there is no benefit in going beyond a 7.4 kW cable. A 7.4 kW cable is worth choosing over a 3.7 kW one as an upgrade: it works identically on the current car and remains more useful on any future vehicle.

For 2024 and newer cars with the 11 kW three-phase charger, a Voldt® 11 kW cable is the right choice, making full use of the charger on any three-phase supply. A 22 kW cable works equally well at 11 kW and is worth considering if you share it with a fully electric vehicle or want the most versatile option available.

The left-front port position means pulling forward into a bay puts the port closest to the post in most charging layouts, which is convenient. The 330e's battery is small enough that cable length matters less here than on a full EV: even a relatively short cable covers the typical distance between a wallbox and a parking space. A 5 or 6-metre cable is sufficient for the great majority of home setups. An 8-metre cable adds useful reach for public posts where the pillar sits a little further from the car, and is the more practical long-term choice if you regularly charge in a variety of locations.

Portable charging for the BMW 330e

The Voldt® portable CEE charging cable connects to industrial sockets and is available up to 22 kW via three-phase CEE. For the pre-2024 330e, a 16A single-phase CEE socket delivers 3.7 kW, charging the 9 kWh battery fully in around two and a half hours: a relaxed stop at any campsite or industrial site with a socket available. For the 2024 car, a 16A three-phase CEE socket delivers the full 11 kW, filling the 19.5 kWh battery in just over two hours. The Schuko portable charger delivers up to 3.7 kW from a standard household socket. For both generations of the 330e the Schuko is a genuinely practical option rather than a last resort: the batteries are small enough that a few hours on a standard socket adds meaningful range, making it a useful complement to home charging on days when you cannot reach a wallbox.
