Collection: Hyundai Kona Electric 2018-2019 charging cable

The first-generation Kona Electric proved there was genuine appetite for a long-range compact SUV at a sensible price. The 64 kWh variant offers up to 300 miles on a charge in WLTP testing, with 250–280 miles a reasonable real-world expectation. The 39 kWh sits closer to 180 miles. Both use a CCS Type 2 inlet at the front centre of the car, behind the grille flap. Both share the same onboard charger: 7.2 kW, single-phase.

The cable that fits the Kona Electric (2018–2019)

A Voldt® Type 2 charging cable is the correct choice for both variants. The Kona's 7.2 kW onboard charger is the ceiling for AC charging speed, so an 11 kW cable covers everything the car needs today and leaves you better placed if you move to a three-phase capable vehicle later.

The front-centre port is one of the more forgiving locations for cable length: nose-in parking puts it close to most posts without excess cable on the ground. A 6-metre cable handles the majority of home driveways well. If your wallbox is offset or you regularly use public bays, 8 metres gives you a comfortable margin without going overboard. The 64 kWh battery fills in roughly nine and a half hours overnight at 7.2 kW. The 39 kWh takes around six hours, which suits a mid-evening plug-in rather than needing to charge overnight.

Portable charging away from home

The Voldt® portable CEE charging cable delivers up to 7.4 kW via a single-phase CEE socket. The Kona's onboard charger accepts up to 7.2 kW of that, so at a campsite, farm or workplace socket the car charges at close to its full AC rate. The Schuko portable charger delivers up to 3.7 kW where only a standard household socket is available.

Voldt® cables are CE, UKCA and TÜV certified and built to IATF 16949. Single-piece moulded connectors, no glue or screws.
