Collection: Mercedes GLA PHEV charging cable

The Mercedes-Benz GLA 250e is a compact luxury plug-in hybrid SUV combining a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an 80 kW electric motor for a combined output of 218 PS and 450 Nm of torque. Power goes to the front wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and 0–100 km/h takes 7.9 seconds. The 15.6 kWh gross battery (11.5 kWh net) delivers a WLTP electric range of 63–70 km, covering the majority of daily urban and suburban journeys on electricity alone. The onboard AC charger accepts up to 11 kW on a three-phase supply. DC charging at up to 22 kW is also available. The Type 2 and CCS charging port is located on the right rear quarter.

Battery and electric range

The lithium-ion battery is integrated into the vehicle's underfloor structure and managed thermally for consistent performance. Real-world electric range typically falls between 50 and 60 km depending on temperature, speed, and driving style. The car starts in electric mode by default and prioritises the electric motor at lower speeds and loads, with the petrol engine stepping in for higher demands or when the battery is depleted.

Charging at home and at public wallboxes

At a three-phase 11 kW wallbox or public AC point, the 11.5 kWh usable battery charges from empty in approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. At a single-phase 7.4 kW supply, the same charge takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. For faster top-ups away from home, the 22 kW DC connection brings the battery from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes, an unusually capable DC charging speed for a compact PHEV of this size.

Choosing the right cable

With an 11 kW three-phase onboard charger, an 11 kW Type 2 cable is the correct match for the GLA 250e, delivering the car's full AC charging rate at any compatible three-phase wallbox and every public Type 2 point across Europe. For those planning ahead for a future vehicle with 22 kW three-phase AC charging, a 22 kW cable is the sensible upgrade: fully compatible with the GLA 250e today and ready for any future vehicle without any change of hardware.

How long a cable do you need?

The charging port is on the right rear quarter, so positioning the car with the right flank toward the charge point is the most practical approach at home. A 6 metre cable suits most home driveway and garage setups. For public charging, an 8 metre cable handles the variation in bay layouts and post positions across different stations. For greater reach, 10 and 15 metre cables are available, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 metres for dedicated or commercial installations.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

A portable CEE charger extends the GLA 250e's charging options to any location with an industrial socket. Given the compact 11.5 kWh usable battery, charge times are short across all socket types. On a 16A single-phase CEE socket (3.7 kW), a full charge from empty takes approximately 3 hours 10 minutes. On a 16A three-phase CEE socket (11 kW), a full charge completes in approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. A 32A three-phase CEE socket delivers the same 11 kW rate and the same charge time. Portable chargers are available from 3.7 kW to 22 kW, all fully compatible with the GLA 250e.
