BMW iX3 charging cable

BMW iX3 charging cable

11kW
The BMW iX3 has a charging capacity of 11kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 11kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 11kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: BMW iX3 charging cable

The BMW iX3 is a rear-wheel-drive electric SUV built on the familiar X3 platform, combining everyday practicality with a composed, typically BMW driving character. All G08 models come with a CCS charging port on the right rear flank, roughly where the fuel filler sits on the petrol X3, and an 11 kW three-phase onboard charger that sets the ceiling for AC charging speed.

Choosing the correct charging cable for the BMW iX3

A 22 kW Voldt® Type 2 charging cable is the best choice for the iX3 in the UK. Most homes run on single-phase power, so a typical wallbox delivers either 3.7 kW (at 16A) or 7.4 kW (at 32A) depending on the installation. A 22 kW cable is rated at 32A, which means it draws the full 7.4 kW your single-phase wallbox can deliver. An 11 kW cable, rated at only 16A, would cap your home charging at 3.7 kW: half the speed. At any public three-phase charger, the iX3 draws its full 11 kW regardless of cable rating, so both work identically there. A full charge from near-empty on a 7.4 kW home wallbox takes around ten hours: plug in after dinner and the car is ready the next morning. At a public 11 kW three-phase charger, that drops to roughly seven hours.

The right-rear port position is worth keeping in mind when choosing a cable length, particularly where the chargepoint sits on the opposite side of the bay. A 6-metre cable covers straightforward home installations comfortably. An 8-metre cable is the most practical all-round choice for home and public charging alike. A 10-metre cable adds reach for chargepoints set further from the bay, or for larger parking spaces. A 15-metre cable handles hotel car parks, long driveways, and wider bays without any compromise.

Portable charging away from home

Voldt® portable EV chargers let you charge from the socket types you will encounter across the UK and on the continent. A three-phase 32A red CEE socket, found at some commercial premises and widely available across mainland Europe, delivers the full 11 kW the iX3 can accept, charging the 74 kWh battery in around seven hours. Campsites and holiday parks in the UK typically provide blue single-phase 16A CEE sockets at 3.7 kW: enough for a meaningful top-up over a day's stay but not a realistic full overnight charge. Where only a standard three-pin socket is available, the portable charger delivers up to 2.8 kW, adding around 9 miles of range per hour. A full charge at that rate would take roughly 26 hours, so the three-pin option works best as an emergency top-up.
