Mercedes B250E charging cable

Mercedes B250E charging cable

11kW
The Mercedes B250E has a charging capacity of 11kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 11kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 11kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Mercedes B250E charging cable

The Mercedes-Benz B 250e is a plug-in hybrid compact MPV based on the W247 B-Class, combining a 1.33-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 75 kW electric motor for a combined system output of 218 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Drive goes to the front wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A 15.6 kWh lithium-ion battery is positioned beneath the rear seats, preserving luggage space, and delivers a WLTP electric range of 56–70 km (35–44 miles) depending on specification. The B 250e reaches 100 km/h from rest in 6.8 seconds and tops out at 235 km/h in combined mode.

The W247 generation was introduced in 2020 and received a facelift in 2023, with cosmetic and infotainment updates but no changes to the drivetrain or charging system. All model years charge identically, and the guidance below covers the full production run.

The charging inlet is a Type 2 socket located on the right rear flank of the vehicle. The onboard AC charger is single-phase and rated at 7.4 kW. Some cars were optionally equipped with a DC charging pack adding CCS2 capability at up to 24 kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in around 25 minutes, though this was a paid option and not fitted to every car.

Charging times at a wallbox

At 7.4 kW from a wallbox, the B 250e charges from 10% to 100% in approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. In daily use, most drivers top up from a partially depleted battery rather than starting from empty, so a typical overnight or workplace charge session takes considerably less time. A standard 7.4 kW single-phase wallbox suits this car fully.

Connecting to an 11 kW or 22 kW three-phase wallbox does not increase the charging rate, as the B 250e's onboard charger is single-phase and draws no more than 7.4 kW regardless of what the supply can offer.

Choosing the right cable

With a 7.4 kW single-phase onboard charger, an 11 kW Voldt® Type 2 cable is the correct match for the B 250e. It handles the car's full charging capability at home and at any public AC charge point, and the connectors are built to the IEC 62196-2 standard used across all Type 2 infrastructure.

A 22 kW cable covers the B 250e just as well and adds forward compatibility for any future vehicle with an 11 kW or 22 kW three-phase onboard charger. Both options work identically on the B 250e itself.

From port to charge point

A 6 metre cable is the practical choice for home use, providing enough reach from a wallbox mounted on a garage wall or driveway post to the right rear inlet without excess cable on the ground. For public charging, where the position of the charge point relative to the parking bay can vary, an 8 metre cable adds the flexibility to connect comfortably in less straightforward situations.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

The B 250e's 15.6 kWh battery is modest in capacity, which makes it well suited to portable charging at locations with industrial CEE sockets. A Voldt® portable EV charger connects via a Type 2 plug on the vehicle side and a CEE plug on the supply side, and is available in models covering 3.7 kW through to 22 kW.

Because the B 250e has a single-phase onboard charger, it draws from one phase only, regardless of how many phases the socket provides. A 16A three-phase CEE socket therefore delivers 3.7 kW to this car, the same as a 16A single-phase socket, since only one of the three phases is used. Approximate full-charge times from empty:

  • 32A three-phase CEE (22 kW socket): the car's 7.4 kW ceiling applies, giving approximately 2 hours 10 minutes.
  • 16A three-phase CEE (11 kW socket): single-phase draw at 3.7 kW, giving approximately 4 hours 15 minutes.
  • 16A single-phase CEE (3.7 kW socket): 3.7 kW, giving approximately 4 hours 15 minutes.

The 32A three-phase portable charger is the most versatile across a household or fleet that includes both single-phase PHEVs and three-phase BEVs, as it reaches the ceiling of each vehicle's own onboard charger.

Voldt® charging cables are CE, UKCA and TÜV certified and manufactured according to IATF 16949 automotive quality standards. Single-piece moulded connectors, no glue or screws. IP67-rated for operation between −30°C and +50°C. 100% copper conductors with silver-plated contacts. Tested beyond 10,000 connection cycles.
